East End Market issues call for artists for new mural

PHOTO VIA EAST END MARKET FACEBOOK

United Arts of Central Florida is fielding applications from professional visual artists to design and install a large-scale mural on an exterior wall at East End Market on Corrine Drive in Audubon Park.

The selected artist will work with three recessed wall spaces, totaling about 22.5 feet of wall space. The theme is Florida birds, with preference given to designs featuring endangered species. The mural must be noncommercial and appropriate for public viewing, so probably no Blue-Footed Boobies.

The project is part of United Arts’ Community Vibrancy Program, a donor-supported initiative that invests in public art to strengthen neighborhood identity. The mural is sponsored by Becca and Zac Wolf.

The total implementation budget is $8,000, which covers artist design and labor, materials, installation costs, surface preparation, protective coating, and equipment rental. City of Orlando permitting costs will be handled separately by Audubon Park Garden District, the local Main Street program.

Qualifying artists must live in Lake, Orange, Osceola, or Seminole counties and have demonstrated experience with murals or large-scale public art. Applications must be submitted through the United Arts Grants Portal, HERE.

Applications open June 11 and are due July 17 at 5 p.m. The artist will be selected in August, with installation scheduled for fall 2026. Design development and final approval by the City of Orlando will take approximately three weeks after artist selection. Applicants must submit a statement of interest, one to two preliminary mural concepts with visuals and narrative descriptions, and work samples.
