The City of Winter Park will host its 16th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 6, at 10 a.m., with free golf for veterans to follow in the afternoon.
The event will take place at the Winter Park Community Center Ruby Ball Amphitheater, next to Shady Park at Hannibal Square, at 721 W. New England Avenue [GMap]. All veterans who served in any military campaign or branch are invited to attend.
At 9:30 a.m., the public can visit with organizations that offer resources for veterans while the VFW Post 2093 Community Band performs. The official program begins at 10 a.m. It includes musical performances, speakers, and musical recognition of veterans in order of the military branch in which they served. Three Quilts of Valor (Website) presentations are also planned.
Mark Hertling, DBA, will speak. A 1975 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Hertling served nearly four decades as an armor and cavalry officer in the U.S. Army, ending his career as commanding general of U.S. Army Europe. He also commanded the 1st Armored Division and Task Force Iron in northern Iraq during the 2007 to 2008 surge, just one of several of his combat deployments. Since retiring, he has worked with healthcare organizations, served on two presidential commissions, and is now a professor of practice in strategic leadership at Rollins College’s Crummer Graduate School of Business.
Veterans can reserve a tee time by Thursday, November 5, by calling 407-599-3339 for WP9 or 407-671-3172 for WP18. For more information about the celebration, call 407-599-3495.
