RENDERING VIA OLDPACKINGHOUSE.COM
Winter Garden has just approved plans to redevelop a historic citrus packing plant on Tildenville School Road into a destination called The Old Packing House (Website), a project city leaders have been discussing in some form for years. The site is a former packing facility tied to the region’s citrus history and is located near the West Orange Trail.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the proposal will renovate the old packing plant and convert it into a community-oriented space with a mix of uses, including retail and dining. It will also feature a “state-of-the-art” coworking office space, according to the project website, which they’re calling “CitrusNet.”
The website lists signed and pending food vendors offering fresh-baked pizza, onsite roasted coffee, Asian, Italian delicatessen, Mediterranean, homemade ice cream, and a taqueria.
The idea of repurposing the building is not new. A 2019 Observer report described early efforts by local entrepreneur Gary Hasson, who was seeking rezoning approval to revive the historic citrus plant and turn it into a neighborhood-focused market concept.
