Hill recently shared the following apology in response to the incident.
I want to sincerely apologize for my emotional response yesterday. As a mother who has endured the heartbreaking loss of both my daughter and my mother, hearing their names spoken in a disparaging and disrespectful manner caused me deep pain in a moment of vulnerability. My reaction came from a place of human emotion—not malice—and for that, I am truly sorry.
Throughout my three campaign cycles, I have always believed in the dignity of public service and the responsibility we have as leaders to elevate our community. Never before have I experienced such hateful and divisive rhetoric in a District 5 campaign as this one. This is not who we are as a people, and it is not what our community deserves.
We are better than this. I stand before you not only as a public servant, but as a human being asking for understanding, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to civility. Let us move forward in unity, with respect for one another, and focus on the future we are building together.
