Two Orlando hotels facing closure

According to a report by WFTV 9, two Orlando-area hotels operated by the same parent company, Sonder (Website), have announced potential closures.

The hotels include Wellborn Hotel Orlando in downtown Orlando and Vista Cay apartments near Epic Universe, and both are part of Sonder’s regional portfolio. Sonder, a company that operates apartment-style hotels and boutique venues around the world, has cited large debt loads and shrinking margins as key factors in filing for Chapter 11. While the company says it is actively seeking restructuring options, the hotels may still close, be sold, or be rebranded, depending on the outcome of court proceedings.

Despite the uncertainty around the hotel operations, the adjacent bar and restaurant, The Wellborn (Website), is not affected by the hotel’s financial issues and will continue to operate independently.

For guests with future reservations, hotel management says all confirmed bookings will be honored as long as the property remains operational. They are also reviewing contingency plans, including re-booking in other locations, should a closure become necessary.
