Tanqueray’s Bar to close at the end of the month

Tanqueray’s Bar (Facebook | Instagram), one of downtown Orlando’s longest-running live music venues, will close at the end of the year after nearly four decades in business. Owner Dan Charles announced the decision in a Facebook post on Friday, December 19, confirming that the bar’s final night of operation will be December 31, with a final New Year’s Eve event planned.

Stone cited a combination of factors behind the closure, including changes to the downtown entertainment district. In his post, he said the city has been “not kind” to long-established local bars since 2023 and confirmed that the current building owner will not renew Tanqueray’s lease. Stone also noted that he will turn 70 on December 31 and said that after 49 years in the hospitality industry, retirement feels like the right next step.

“…the current building owner will not be renewing our lease. As a result, we have been forced to make this decision. I will be 70 this year on 12/31/25, and after 49 years in the hospitality industry, I feel the stars are aligning for retirement and the closure of Tanqueray’s. I am humbled at the patronage our “regulars” have participated in over the years, along with all the magnificent local musicians that have performed at our venue.”

Tanqueray’s has been a fixture in downtown Orlando’s music scene since opening in 1989. Over the years, the bar built a loyal following of regulars and musicians, earning a reputation as one of the city’s most consistent live music destinations, and the only downtown venue located in a basement.

The announcement comes just weeks after Tanqueray’s was forced to temporarily close in early November following a ruptured water pipe in the historic downtown building it occupies. The pipe failure led to an evacuation and repairs, briefly disrupting operations before the bar was able to reopen.
