Lez Rumble (Instagram), a new community boxing showcase created to give women and queer folks a dedicated space in combat sports, will hold its inaugural event Saturday, September 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at TITLE Boxing Club Winter Park (Website), which has been named Orlando’s Best Exercise Studio for three consecutive years.
The event is already sold out.
The showcase intentionally focuses on lesbians while welcoming participants of all genders, sexual orientations, races, athletic backgrounds, and experience levels.
Lez Rumble is organized by Coach Ary, a TITLE Boxing coach and member of Orlando’s queer community, who has spent years using combat sports to build community spaces where people can be competitive and athletic on their own terms. Ary said the goal is to share a love of fighting with people who have always wanted to try it but never felt like there was a place for them, adding that walking into the gym is always the hardest part and that no one needs to be a real fighter, just willing to give it a try.
Ary previously organized two sold-out LGBTQ+ arm-wrestling tournaments called Lez Wrestle at The Outpost Neighborhood Tavern in downtown Orlando last year, events that brought together people who shared a love of competition in a setting where they could also meet new people and express themselves while showing off their wrist strength and biceps.
