Downtown Sanford will once again host its offbeat annual event, Sofas and Suds (Facebook), on Sunday, November 23, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the intersection of Palmetto and Second Street. Groups will compete by pushing decorated couches (on wheels) down the street in a fast-paced race that draws thousands of spectators each year.
The event pairs couch racing with beer tasting, food trucks, live music, and vendor booths, creating a lively community festival. Teams from Sanford’s small businesses and local organizations transform sofas into rolling works of art, competing in bracket-style heats for trophies and bragging rights. Previous events have also included “crowd favorite” awards and novelty challenges like two-person recliner races.
