According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County deputies are investigating a bizarre robbery at Disney Springs in which a man wearing scuba gear allegedly stole cash from a restaurant and then escaped into the water.
The incident took place at Paddlefish, just after midnight at 12:10 a.m., after the restaurant had closed. Witnesses told deputies a man in a wetsuit and snorkel mask entered through an employee entrance, spray-painted a security camera, took money from the manager’s office, and then ran out the back before jumping into the nearby waterway. He swam off toward the Lake Buena Vista side of the property and disappeared from view.
Sheriff’s Office marine units and K-9 teams searched the area, but as of the last update, no arrest had been made and the suspect remained at large. Authorities haven’t released how much money was taken, though it’s estimated to be between $10,000-$20,000.
Disney has said it’s cooperating with law enforcement and that no guests were endangered during the incident. Orange County deputies are asking anyone with information to contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
