Central Florida Public Media (Website) is hosting its second annual Punk for Public Media benefit concert on Sunday, August 23, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Will’s Pub, and everyone is invited.

The event is a partnership between Central Florida Public Media, Will’s Pub, Whatever Dude Productions and MOX!E, and is bringing together local punk artists, music fans and public media supporters for an afternoon of live performances benefiting the news organization.

Seven acts are scheduled to perform: Partner, Double Bubble, Sick Dogs, S.M.O.P., TV Dinner, Steven Gray of Dikembe, and Debt Neglector, and there will be a food pop-up featuring Chinese cuisine from local favorite Little Giant (Instagram), which will be set up next door at Dirty Laundry on the back patio, running from noon until sellout.

Central Florida Public Media President and General Manager Judith Smelser said the inaugural event showed what’s possible when a community rallies around something it values, and that events like this remind the organization that public media is strongest when sustained by the community it serves.

Last year’ ‘s event, which launched after the elimination of federal and state funding created a $400,000 annual funding gap for Central Florida Public Media, raised almost $9,000. Tickets and more information on this year’s performers are available at cfpublic.org/punk.
