The Parrot Heads of Central Florida (Website) will celebrate Jimmy Buffett Day at RockPit Brewing & Distilling in the SoDo district on August 29, running from noon to 6 p.m. with live music, in the group’s third year honoring the late musician.
The free, open event will feature live Jimmy Buffett covers throughout the afternoon from musicians Gregg “DOC” Stewart and Henry Hood. The day will also include a silent auction, basket raffles, and a Jimmy Buffett look-alike contest. Expect plenty of boatyard chic tropical prints and cargo shorts.
This year’s event combines fundraising efforts for three of Buffett’s favorite charities: the Singing for Change Foundation, Save the Manatee Club, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
The group holds monthly gatherings, called “PHlockings,” at The Porch in Winter Park, where members collect in-kind donations and cash for a different organization each month. So far this year, the group has supported Second Harvest Food Bank, participated in a beach cleanup and sea oat planting in Cape Canaveral, and helped with street cleaning at its adopted location on South Street in Orlando.
