Page 15 (Website) will host its fifth annual Pop-Up Poetry event on March 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Monroe (Website) in Parramore. The free lunchtime event features local students and community leaders, including Orlando Poet Laureate Camara Gaither and News 6’s Ginger Gasden. The event gives young people a chance to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with their neighbors through poetry.
Page 15 is a youth literacy nonprofit founded in 2008 that serves more than 600 children across Central Florida. The organization uses creative writing to help young people develop literacy, storytelling, and critical thinking skills, and they’re awesome (I used to work for their parent organization, Urban Think Foundation). They operate in schools and after school with writing clubs and programs, and publish two books every year featuring student work, and run a Young Writers Summer Camp.
The event is free and open to the public. Light lunch and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Donations are welcome to support Page 15’s year-round programs.
