RENDERING VIA CITY OF ORLANDO
Construction has officially begun on the Downtown Gap Trail, a half-mile, two-way cycle track along the south side of Washington Street running from Garland to Magnolia avenues. The project is expected to take about eight months and includes improvements to the SunRail at-grade crossing to make the transition smoother and safer for cyclists.
The trail is one of the last missing links in the Downtown Loop, a long-planned 8.5-mile car-free circuit through the heart of the city. Once complete, the Loop will directly connect the Orlando Urban Trail, Gertrude’s Walk, Lake Underhill Path, Bumby Path, and Cady Way Trail, all of which currently exist as separate segments.
A Bike Plan Update survey is open now at orlando.gov/bikeplan for residents who want a say in the next decade of cycling infrastructure. We wrote about it HERE in January.
