The Orlando Bike Coalition (Facebook | Instagram) is hosting a special bike ride on Monday, January 19, at 9 a.m., in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

There’s an iconic photograph of Martin Luther King Jr. riding a bike while visiting Fire Island for a fundraising trip in 1967, and speaking at rallies against the Vietnam War. It was taken by Newsday photographer Stan Wolfson.

The ride will kick off at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park, at the site of the new MLK statue, on the corner of Denning and Morse, before departing on an 8-mile route to Lake Lorna Doone Park adjacent to Camping World Stadium.

Event organizers say it will be a casual pace and open to most levels of riders. As always, though, if you haven’t used your bike in a while, be sure to tune it up first. Nobody wants a flat tire on a group ride.
