OCLS inviting fiber artists to participate in annual Yarnfiti event

The Orange County Library System is inviting the public to join Yarnfiti: Stitched Together, its annual community art installation, where fiber artists of all kinds, including knitters, crocheters, macramé artists, sewers, weavers, embroiderers, and more, come together to create a collaborative public art display.

In case you didn’t guess, the name “Yarnfiti” is a mash-up of “yarn” and “graffiti,” nodding to the idea of turning unexpected spaces into vibrant, textile-filled artworks. This year’s theme is Space, meaning contributors are shaping pieces inspired by the cosmos, galaxies, stars, or imaginative interstellar landscapes.

Projects can be contributed by attending classes and meetups hosted across OCLS branches, or by submitting individual creations made independently, so long as they adhere to the theme. Workshops are offered to help participants sharpen or learn new skills, including everything from sashiko hand sewing and embroidery hoop finishing to family fiber arts and open labs.

The finished works will be assembled into a large installation at the Fall Fiber Festival on Sunday, September 21, at the Orlando Public Library downtown. The Festival also features demonstrations by local fiber-arts guilds and vendors.
