The Nook on Robinson, a longtime Milk District bar known for its craft beer selection and community-driven events, will close its doors this fall, according to a recent post on social media (which you can see for yourself at the bottom of this post).
Owners Matt Duke and Mary McGinn announced the closure Thursday in a brief video posted to the bar’s social media. McGinn said the two will throw a funeral for the bar on its final night: Halloween.
Between now and October 31, the Nook plans to continue its regular monthly programming, including recurring events Circuit Church, Please Understand, Golden Flower’s residency, Movie Trash (where they play the shittiest movies ever made that are so bad they’re good) and its weekly bring-your-own-vinyl night. Golden Flower is scheduled to perform at the bar Friday, August 7 at 8 p.m.
Duke and McGinn opened the Nook on Robinson in the Milk District in 2018, building the bar around local and regional craft beers alongside a focus on community engagement. Recurring events like Circuit Church and Please Understand gave local beatmakers and synthesists a stage when larger venues had no room for them, and Circuit Church’s outdoor shows in the bar’s parking lot became a notable gathering spot during the pandemic – when they also hosted a 60-second group scream at the sky back in September 2020. Both McGinn and Duke put their hearts and souls into the space and The Milk District will be a poorer place without them there.
No official reason has been given for the closure, though Orlando Weekly noted that the bar’s parking lot was converted into a paid lot with a $10 fee by the property owners several months ago, which definitely caused some friction at the time.
