Crealdé School of Art (Website) in Winter Park will present Panoramic Light: The Art of Hansen Mulford, a solo exhibition running October 16 through December 12, with a free opening reception Friday, October 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition features paintings and drawings by Mulford, a lifelong Floridian who spent decades observing the state’s coastlines, wetlands, rivers and prairies. His work centers on Florida’s shifting light and sky, transforming both natural landscapes and everyday scenes across the state.
Mulford said, via a prepared press release, the real subject of his paintings is light and space, describing his fascination with watching the changing drama of sun and clouds across sweeping vistas.
Beyond his own painting practice, Mulford is known locally for his 40-year tenure as chief curator at the Orlando Museum of Art, where he helped shape exhibitions and collections and became a significant figure in Central Florida’s visual arts community. His long study of American landscape painting, and particularly the 19th century Luminist tradition associated with artists like Martin Johnson Heade, informs his own work.
Crealdé School of Art Executive Director and CEO Emily Bourmas-Fry said Mulford has a remarkable ability to capture the light, atmosphere, and sense of place that define Florida, and called the exhibition a deeply personal body of work shaped by a lifetime of observing the state’s landscape.
Crealdé School of Art is located at 600 St. Andrews Boulevard [GMap] in Winter Park. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
