Enzian Theater (Website) will screen The Python Hunt, an (oddly poetic) documentary about Florida’s annual python hunting competition in the Everglades, on Friday, June 12 at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday, June 13 at 3:00 p.m.
The film won the Special Jury Award at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival and follows an eclectic group of amateur hunters competing over ten nights to remove invasive pythons from the Everglades while trying to walk away with a considerable amount of prize money. The film captures their struggles against unforgiving terrain, aggressive nocturnal creatures, and the (sometimes questionable) personal motivations that drive them into the swamp in the first place.
The Hollywood Reporter called it “a wild journey into the swamp of the American soul,” while INDIEWIRE compared it to Tiger King, calling it “the rare project that’s indescribable enough to break through a saturated niche.”
Director Xander Robin and special guests will attend both screenings for Q&A sessions.
