Enzian Theater (Website) is screening “The Fox and the Hound” on the Fourth of July as part of its KidFest Summer Film Series, and admission is free for kids under 12.
The 1981 Disney animated classic screens on Saturday, July 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Enzian in Maitland, to celebrate the film’s 45th anniversary of making people cry as a family about animal habituation and abandonment.
The film follows Tod, a young fox, and Copper, a “hound dog” puppy, who grow up as friends before Copper is expected to take on his role as a hunting dog, putting their friendship to the test.
The film features the voice talents of Kurt Russell, Mickey Rooney, and Corey Feldman, and was an early project for a new wave of Disney animators, including John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Don Bluth, Henry Selick, and Tim Burton (who worked as an uncredited character animator and specifically helped create Tod’s love interest), who would later define the studio’s renaissance era.
