"THE MELANCHOLY OF DEPARTURE" BY DAVID FORREST VIA CREALDE SCHOOL OF ART
Crealdé School of Art (Instagram| Website) will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 with a new photography exhibition, Beneath A Clear Blue Sky: Photographs of September 11, opening later this summer in Winter Park.
The exhibition features work by photographer David Forrest (Instagram), who captured images in New York City as the events of that day unfolded, centering on human moments that emerged afterward, including a mother comforting her child and strangers supporting one another amid the chaos.
Forrest said the photographs have taken on a broader meaning over the past 25 years, calling them a bridge between history and memory for those too young to remember that day themselves.
Crealdé Executive Director and CEO Emily Bourmas-Fry said the exhibition reflects the school’s belief that art can preserve history while deepening understanding of the human experience behind it, and that it offers a chance for remembrance and reflection as the anniversary approaches. Kyle Eagle is serving as guest curator for the exhibition.
Beneath A Clear Blue Sky opens with a reception on Friday, August 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and will remain on view through September 27 in the Alice & William Jenkins Gallery at Crealdé School of Art, which you can find at 600 St. Andrews Boulevard [GMap] in Winter Park.
Admission to the exhibition is free.
