A fire broke out Friday evening at The Tiny Turtle (Website), a well-known restaurant on Minutemen Causeway between South Orlando and South Brevard avenues in Cocoa Beach. The building sustained significant damage, with the roof bearing the brunt of the fire. All occupants, including the owner and another tenant who lived on the property, evacuated safely.
The blaze also spread to neighboring businesses, and the cause is still under investigation. Even as the fire was being dealt with, the owners invited people to come take food before it went to waste. Within hours, the Cocoa Beach small-business community had already started organizing.
Local musician Matt Riley donated all of his tips Saturday night during a performance at Grounds and Grapes, and he told our friends at News 6 that helping Tiny Turtle owners Kelly and Mo was an easy decision. “I’ve known Kelly and Mo since before my son was in kindergarten,” he said. “They’re just absolute pillars in this town.”
Marissa, general manager of The Alleyway, a neighboring business, put it simply: “We all support each other. We come to each other’s businesses. We eat there. They come here.”
Another fundraiser is planned for next week. Donations can be made through The Pointe Church, HERE.
