The City of Orlando is celebrating its 150th anniversary with the launch of a new podcast, Orlando History Makers, hosted by Commissioner Robert F. Stuart (Instagram). The series highlights the people who have helped shape Orlando’s past and present, featuring interviews with local leaders, former mayors, and community figures.
The first episode premiered on Wednesday, October 22, featuring a candid conversation with Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando’s longest-serving mayor. Dyer reflects on his two decades in office and shares personal stories about the city’s growth and transformation.
New episodes will be released every Wednesday on the City of Orlando’s YouTube channel and HERE on the City’s website. Upcoming guests include Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings on October 29, former Orlando Mayors Glenda Hood and Bill Frederick, former Orange County Mayor and U.S. Senator Mel Martinez, Judge Emerson Thompson, former City Attorney Charlie Gray, former City Commissioner and State Senator George Stuart, and Florida Citrus Sports Executive Director Steve Hogan.
Commissioner Stuart said at the recent City Council meeting that the podcast is a way to honor Orlando’s leaders and preserve their stories for future generations. “As Orlando celebrates 150 years, this podcast is our way of honoring the leaders who’ve made a lasting impact on our city,” he said.
