City Council approved the acquisition of three contiguous parcels in the SoDo Main Street District to relocate Fire Station 5, authorizing the purchase of properties at 26 and 36 W. Crystal Lake Drive [GMap] and 2506 Taylor Avenue [GMap] for a combined total of $2.5 million.
The Orlando Fire Department said the new location will improve operational efficiency and emergency response times through dual entry and exit routes. The three parcels together create a unified site that provides north and south access points, allowing better vehicle circulation and reducing response delays.
All properties are scheduled to close on or before October 19 of this year, with a 90-day due diligence period included in the contracts, and according to paperwork provided in the council agenda, the seller may remain in possession of the property for up to six months after closing at no cost to the City.
The acquisition is funded from the Department of Business and Financial Services Real Estate budget for the current fiscal year.
City Council authorized the Real Estate Division Manager to execute the contracts and all closing documents necessary to finish the purchase, subject to review and approval by the City Attorney’s Office.
Fire Station 5 is currently located at 1818 S. Orange Avenue [GMap], at the East Kaley intersection.
