3/20 UPDATE: The original version of this post included a line promoting a $4 meal deal, which is no longer being offered. We apologize for any confusion.
The Checkers at 355 E. Main Street [GMap] in Apopka has completed a full exterior remodel, marking the location’s 20th anniversary since opening in 2006. The redesigned restaurant is part of the brand’s new “This Eats Different” initiative, which is apparently about pairing “craveable food without the high prices.”
The drive-thru-only building has traded its classic black-and-white look for a new red exterior anchored by a checkered facade, a redesigned canopy with a 3D pop-out effect, and murals wrapping both sides of the building, including a “WE LOVE APOPKA” message on the exterior. After dark, neon lighting under the canopies and up-and-down lighting around the full building give the restaurant a glow designed to draw in late-night guests.
To celebrate the anniversary and the remodel, Checkers is throwing a community party on Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. The free event includes face painting for kids, giveaways throughout the afternoon, and an enter-to-win prizes offer for Orlando Magic tickets and memorabilia.
“For 20 years, this Apopka restaurant has been part of the community, and this remodel is our way of celebrating that history while looking ahead,” said Russ Romeo, Sr. Director of Marketing Activation at Checkers Drive-In Restaurants.
