Catch John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ at Ritz Theater Sept. 17

The Ritz Theater (Website) in Sanford screens John Carpenter’s “The Thing” at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, September 17.

The 1982 sci-fi horror film follows a group of researchers at a remote Antarctic outpost who discover a shape-shifting alien creature capable of perfectly imitating any living thing it consumes. As paranoia spreads through the isolated team, no one can be sure who, or what, is still human. The film is pretty much seen as a genre classic, known for its practical creature effects, tense atmosphere, and a slow-burn sense of dread that keeps audiences guessing until the final scene. And Kurt Russell’s massive cowboy hat. It received a fairly mixed reception on its original 1982 release.

Directed by John Carpenter and starring the aforementioned Kurt Russell and his amazing hair/beard combo, “The Thing” is based on the 1938 novella “Who Goes There?” by John W. Campbell.

The Ritz Theater is located at 201 S. Magnolia Avenue [GMap] in downtown Sanford. Tickets are $7.50 and available for purchase HERE.
