The Speakeasy Murder & Other Acts of Prohibition (Website) will stage A Speakeasy Christmas Carol, a family-friendly retelling of the Charles Dickens classic set in a 1924 New York speakeasy, on select dates from December 2 to 30 at Teatro Martini (Website) in Orlando.
The production is set on Christmas Eve in 1924 inside The 38, described as New York City’s hottest speakeasy. It follows Johnnie “Two Hat” Stokes, described as an “ambitious young mob boss with plenty of power, no shortage of enemies, and very little Christmas spirit.” His dead former partner returns with a warning, followed by three Christmas spirits.
The show combines performances, Christmas carols and festive surprises with a holiday-themed dinner. Seasonal cocktails and mocktails are available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to dress in 1920s attire and arrive early to enjoy the “Jewel” pre-show and post-show venue before entering The 38 for dinner and the show.
Unlike the Speakeasy’s signature interactive murder mystery shows, this one doesn’t have a mystery to solve, though the release promises “suspense and twists.” The regular murder mystery dinner show, which is rated PG-13, continues throughout December.
“What makes this production special is that we aren’t simply retelling the classic story in a different setting,” said Erik Hastings, creator and producer. “We’re bringing it into our established theatrical world, giving returning guests a chance to discover new sides of familiar characters, while introducing an entirely new audience to The Speakeasy.” He added, “We’re not replacing the murder mystery. We’re expanding the world of The Speakeasy.”
Tickets are $84.14 for adults 18 and older and $51.12 for “junior detectives.” Click HERE for the schedule and tickets, or call 623-270-5115.
