The Orange County Library System (Website) will host GreenFest at its South Creek Branch on Friday, August 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event is being billed as a celebration of sustainability featuring educational workshops and representatives from local green and eco-friendly organizations. Registration is available through the library’s event page. Seating for presentations is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The schedule includes two presentations. From 11:15 to 11:40 a.m., Kristy Buchler, known as the Florida Gardenista, will lead “Healthy Garden Practices,” a beginner-friendly class on maintaining a sustainable garden in Central Florida’s growing conditions. Buchler is a fifth-generation Florida gardener and farmer who hosts community plant events and teaches gardening classes.
From 11:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Dominique Kinsler of PharmUnique (Website) will present “Seed Starting,” covering the basics of starting seeds, choosing seasonal seeds, and caring for seedlings. Kinsler is a pharmacist, educator, and Master Gardener Volunteer who founded PharmUnique, a food and gardening platform for beginners.
Representatives from several organizations will be available throughout the event, including Fleet Farming, the Florida School of Holistic Living, the City of Orlando’s Office of Sustainability & Resilience, Orange Audubon, Orange County Parks and Recreation, Orange County Utilities, Tibet-Butler Preserve, and UF IFAS Florida Master Gardeners.
