THE DUCKIES LINING UP POLITELY FOR THE RACE
The Great Duck Derby took over Mead Botanical Garden (Website) in Winter Park this morning, and hundreds of people showed up for it. Families packed the neighborhood throughout the event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and parking in the surrounding streets was at a premium by early morning.
Rubber ducks raced down Howell Creek in three family heats throughout the morning, with families lining the waterway to cheer on their adopted ducks. Beyond the races, the garden filled up with bounce houses, a bubble zone, nature crafts, a wildlife animal encounter from Back to Nature, bug activities from UCF’s Entomology Department, and a storytime from Bookwyrm Bookshop, among other activities. Live music from Mr. Harley and Mr. Richard ran through the afternoon.
