Orlando Ballet (Website) opens a three-day program at Steinmetz Hall in the Dr. Phillips Center this weekend, running Friday through Sunday with four performances total.
The program features three distinct pieces. George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante is a high-energy classical ballet set to Tchaikovsky, built on fast footwork (allegedly, I Googled it). Mark Godden’s Angels in the Architecture, set to Aaron Copland, explores the tension between light and darkness and faith and doubt. And Heath Gill’s Confronting Genius rounds out the weekend with a modern take on creative obsession, set to a score pulling from Paganini, Tom “I Chew Glass” Waits, and spoken word.
The run time is 96 minutes with 15 minutes between each work. Performances are Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m. A pre-show discussion with members of the artistic team is offered before select performances.
